Born on a farm near Kensington, Minnesota she was baptized, confirmed, and married in Nora Lutheran Church. She died January 19 at age 94, surrounded by family, preceded in death by Norman, her husband of 58 years, and their oldest son Steven (Rebecca).
The youngest of eight children, Florence was the last of a close family: Marie (Emil), Clarice, Emma (Everall), Edna (Harold), Myrtle (Al), Leonard (Beverly), & Pearl (Omer); parents Olivia Rubina Hagen & Olaus Larson.
Survived by children Robert Schwendeman (formerly Dina), Bonnie (Neil) Maffitt, Jeanne Quarstad, and Jill (Tiger Heise) Schwendeman; grandchildren Jim (Heather), Erik (Lorena), Karissa (Jon), Jacob (Kayla), Daniel, Soren, Skyler, & Julian; great-grandchildren Jordan, Landon, Annaka, Jack, Remy, & Hannah; & many beloved nieces, nephews & family members.
After earning her RN at Ancker Hospital, Florence practiced nursing in St. Paul & managed the outpatient clinic at Shriners Children’s Hospital (Mpls.). She made quilts for each of her children & was a good friend & generous volunteer. She & Norman were enthusiastic ballroom dancers, ran Schwendeman Lawn Service, & were known for their welcoming home.
A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Paul, 59 years, & Our Savior’s in Stillwater after moving to Stillwater in 2002, Florence was a lifelong Christian who served God with patience & love. Our hearts hurt but we are happy that she is now set free, whole, & healthy, with Jesus.
