Gerald Patrick Wiggin

Jerry passed away August 21, 2026 peacefully. Son of Clyde and Mary Wiggin, Jerry was born in St. Paul as the 11th of 12 siblings on March 18, 1946. He attended Trinity Preparatory Seminary High School in Sioux City, IA and continued his education at Catholic University in DC.

In 1966, he served in the Army overseas in Korea for 2 years. Jerry worked at Total Asphalt for 15 years as well as Vic's Crane as a logistics coordinator.

Jerry aka "Big Ger and Wigs" was known for his easygoing, kind, generous nature, perhaps even too generous to a fault. He was known to keep items unlocked in his car in case someone else needed them more. He was always willing to help, rarely asking for anything in return. Jerry has always been active and athletic. He particularly enjoyed playing hockey primarily as goalie, broomball, ping-pong, and golf. He also liked sharing a beer or two with friends and family. Jerry had a talent for writing, his cards and texts were always witting and heartfelt. He loved to read and back in the day was known for riding a motorcycle.

Jerry is survived by his daughters Jenny Cates (Jeff) and Laurie Lavin (Mike). Grandkids Jackson (Gracie), Noah (Carlie), McKinley (Mike), and Will. Also great-grandpa to Cooper, Jack, and Hadley. Sisters Monica, Tess, and Dory. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jerry's intentionality, humor, and big heart made him a joyous friend, father, and grandfather to all who knew him. Jerry's competitive nature helped fuel his dedication to his grandkids' sports. He never missed a game and his unwavering support and pride for his grandkids beamed through him. The joy his grandkids and great grandkids brought him was immeasurable.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, an organization Jerry proudly volunteered for 14 years.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, August, 31, 2026 from 4-8pm at the Mendota VFW Post 6610. This celebration of life is an open house forum. 1323 Sibley Memorial Hwy., Mendota, MN 55150
