Harriet Gernert, age 101, of Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, peacefully met her Lord and
Savior on December 18, 2025.
Harriet was born in Duluth, Minnesota on March 11, 1924, to Halvor and Hilma
Halvorson. In 1944, she married John Gernert, and together they raised two daughters
in Hibbing, Minnesota. Following John's retirement in 1981, they moved to Iron
Mountain, Michigan.
In both Hibbing and Iron Mountain, Harriet was actively involved in her church, PEO,
garden club, The Chippewa Club and other civic activities. She was a woman of many
talents - an accomplished seamstress, an avid gardener, and a gracious hostess. She
loved to sew, knit, create stained glass pieces, play bridge and travel. Harriet enjoyed
entertaining and cooking for friends and family, always with thoughtfulness and
intention. She skied each winter with John at Pine Mountain until the age of 85.
Harriet honored tradition and heritage with pride, especially in her Scandinavian roots.
She worked hard, showed up fully, and never stopped being curious about the world.
We grieve with hope and trust in the promise that the same Christ who walked with her
through 101 years now welcomes her fully in His presence. Her life was a testimony,
her faith a foundation, and Christ's love - ageless and eternal - is her everlasting home.
Harriet is survived by her two daughters, Gretchen (Bart) Trebnick and Rebecca
Gernert; three grandchildren, Abigail, Shawn and Sam; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and her grandson, John Joseph.
A private family service will be held in Iron Mountain, Michigan, at a later date.
