Hazel MaryAnn Walgren

December 19, 1926 — May 27, 2026

Shoreview, MN

Age 99 of Shoreview, MN, was born on December 19, 1926 in St. Paul, MN and passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Hazel was deeply proud of her Swedish heritage and traveled back to Sweden several times during her life. One of the greatest highlights was the celebration of her and Dick's 60th wedding anniversary in Sweden, surrounded by their children and grandchildren Hazel was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Walgren for 65 wonderful years. Together they created a truly traditional "Leave it to Beaver" family - the kind where Dad went to work, Mom was the heart of the home, and the kids actually played outside until the streetlights came on. Theirs was a loving, stable household built on strong values, respect, and daily routines. The beds were always made, the dinner table was always set, and everyone knew they belonged there.

An extraordinary host and cook, Hazel made every gathering special, with Christmas as a major event filled with warmth, delicious food, and enough Swedish meatballs and ham balls to feed the neighborhood. If you left her house hungry, it was nobody's fault but your own. Hazel was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Dick and is survived by her children: Tom Walgren (Sue), Dave Walgren (Lynn), and Nancy Jacobson (Kim); five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. An active member of Gustavus Adolphus and Elim Lutheran Church, Hazel formed many dear friendships that lasted throughout her life. Her faith and church community were important parts of who she was. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest happiness in her family, her faith, and nurturing those around her. The family would like to express special thanks to Saint Croix Hospice and Shoreview Senior Living for their amazing care and compassion during her final days. A private service will be held for the family. Memorials are preferred to Elim Lutheran Church or Gammelgården Museum of Scandia.
