Howard Frederick Andrea, age 86, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, January 11, 2024.

Howard was born on August 3, 1937, in Buffalo, Minnesota, and moved to St. Paul with his family at age 5. He attended grade school at the Church of St. Mary and high school at Mechanics Arts, both in St. Paul. He spent his freshman year of college at the University of St. Thomas and transferred to the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus where he received a degree in psychology and sociology.

Howard proudly served as a PFC E-3 stationed in Germany as a member of the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 during the Vietnam War. He spent his entire career as a career/jobs test author and application technician for the State of Minnesota. Reading, pencil drawing and coin collecting were his favorite pastimes.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle (Varner) and Elmer Andrea; brothers, Walter and Roger; and sister, Beatrice Howard.

He is survived by nephews, Daniel and Thomas Howard; niece, Deborah (Christian) Schweitzer; and beloved friends, Rose Neis, Donna Aske, Debbie Anderson, and Judy Trest.

Howard's friends are especially grateful for the kind, supportive and loving care he received from everyone on the staffs of HealthPartners Hospice and The Villas of New Brighton. He said, "Every day at the Villas is like a family reunion."

Private interment and Catholic prayers were held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in St. Paul on January 16, 2024. A private graveside memorial, Catholic sacraments and military funeral honors will be held later this spring.
