Irma Regina Turner
July 7, 1930 – June 13, 2026
Irma Regina Turner (nee Pastre) age 95 of Minneapolis, MN. Born July 7, 1930 in Minneapolis,
to Italian immigrants Joseph and Anna (Gava) Pastre. Passed away June 13, 2026 at home
surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anna, husband Bob
(1999) and brother John. Survived by children LoAnne, Roberta, Kathleen (Peter) Sappanos,
Steven (Alice) Turner and James (Wendy) Turner; grandchildren, Eric and Kiel Olson, Devan,
Tony, Mike and Peter, Jr. Sappanos; Joe, Matt and Sam Turner; sister Mary Lou Pastre. Great-
grandchildren, Abigail, Blake, Nowell and Caden; Nieces and Nephews; and many dear friends.
Irma was a life-long resident of south Minneapolis and has enjoyed many circles of friends
within the community. A 1948 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Irma had her passion set on
a creative career within the realm of fashion illustration and attended the College of St.
Catherine (St. Catherine University). Throughout her younger years she enjoyed designing and
making her own clothes. Her plans shifted; however, when she met Bob Turner, a frequent
customer at the corner drug store where she worked. Soon they were planning marriage and in
June of 1950 Irma and Bob were married at St. Helena Catholic Church and her most important
role began as homemaker and ultimately a mother of five children.
While she did place her career goals on hiatus, she was relevant and had a true commitment to
service. Her support of her children and within her parish church community provided
opportunities to demonstrate her leadership. Her volunteer efforts led to roles as Chairperson
of the Women’s Club (CCW), Girl Scout leader, as Team Captain Mother on several occasions for
her children’s sports, Craft Committee Chairperson, driver for Meals on Wheels, supporting the
Circle of Friends Club and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus achieving
an award of service.
As her children became more self-sufficient she dipped her toe back into working outside the
home as a food and product demonstrator at Byerlys, St. Louis Park location and before long
she was leading a department of cooking and kitchen accessories.
Irma enjoyed her retirement years tapping into that sphere of community within south
Minneapolis. She enjoyed participating in many activities offered for older adults within the
Minneapolis neighborhood Parks system; lunches and local trips. She traveled with her children
on cruises, road trips and a return to Italy to visit family. She was a voracious reader of
mysteries and western themed books, loved jigsaw puzzles and card games until macular
degeneration of her eyesight curtailed some activity. She rarely complained of it and learned to
adapt around it. When family planned activities it was always Irma’s schedule that was the
most full and family coordinated to her agenda.
She had an elegant, quiet style. She loved her faith and church community, her family, her
neighborhood and parks community, her hair stylist! Her focus was always on the other
person, with a sincere interest and desire to lift up another individual and let them know how
unique and valued they were. She was always grateful for her friendships and she was
intentional in her effort to make that known to each person. She was sharp and an example of
strength until her final hours. We love you so much and miss you already.
The family would like to thank Dr.’s Robert Caldwell and Taylor Hand and nurse Joe for their
compassionate care of Irma.
