James "Jim" Edward Ariola, age 80, of Maplewood, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years. On August 10, 1991, he married Barbara Leisz in Maplewood, Minnesota, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than three decades. He dedicated 34 years of his career to 3M before retiring in 2003.

Family was at the center of Jim's life. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, holding a special place in their hearts as "Grandpa Goose" and affectionately known as "Goose" to his sons. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren's sporting events and cheering them on.

Jim found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed bird watching at his feeder, tending to his vegetable garden, and fishing year-round. He cherished time spent "up north" with his sons and close friends, took pride in keeping an organized garage, and was always willing to lend a hand to neighbors. A devoted Minnesota Wild season ticket holder for 24 years, Jim eagerly anticipated each hockey season.

Known as "Cherryman" among family and friends, Jim earned his nickname through his signature liquor-soaked cherries, which he generously shared. He delighted in hosting family Christmas gatherings, brother-sister dinners, and attending the annual Harvest Hoe-Down-traditions that brought loved ones together and created lasting memories. His trademark smile and ever-present toothpick will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Though we say goodbye for now, Jim's faith in Jesus gives us comfort in knowing this is not a final farewell, but an "I'll see you later."

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barb; his children, Jim Jr., Deanna (Donald), and Matt; his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Austin, Matthew, and Isabella; his sister, Grace Moody; many extended family members and friends; and his beloved dog, Annie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Ariola; his grandson, Jack Ariola Erenberg; and his siblings, Mae (Sook) Vaught, Louise (Jack) Kappel, Jack Ariola, Alice (Rick) Maki, and Tony Ariola.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026, at Bradshaw, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear Lake, MN 55127. Visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Jim's memory by spending meaningful time with loved ones - something he valued most.
