James D. Dallager
Age 89, of Mahtomedi, formerly of Stillwater, passed away January 6, 2023. James was born June 2, 1933 in Badger, MN the second oldest of 6 siblings. He was preceded in death by wife, Kathrine; brothers, Ed and Harvey; and sister, Janette; granddaughter, Angela. He is survived by children, Janice, Tim, and Pat (Brenda); brothers, Leroy and Gary; and great-great granddaughters, Riley and Mya Barry.
In the late 60's to early 80's, James ran a successful janitorial service with up to 100 full and part time employees. Pat took over the business in 1995 and is still doing so, but he is much smaller and now specializes in Commercial and Residential Carpet Cleaning and Floor Care. Always an entrepreneur, James also had a Kabob Shack at the Minnesota State Fair for 5 years back in the late 70's to early 80's that he really enjoyed.
James was an avid collector and had a nose for a good deal. Over the years, he had as many as 35 cars. He loved Model T's and Model A's and even had a few Lincolns and Cadillacs. He enjoyed rummaging through old farms up by Roseau for items to buy cheap, and then bring back to the cities to sell for more money.
In addition to attending car shows and swap meets, the softer side of James found him planting, tending to, and admiring his flowers.
His mild temperament, communication skills, and ability to get along well with others are what helped him become the success he was. James was also very thankful to Dr. Harry Plotke who was a well-known eye doctor for his encouragement to quit Ford and start his own cleaning business.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, June 3, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
