A proud lifelong resident of Stillwater, passed away on March 29, 2026 at the age of 82. Much of this obituary was thoughtfully written by Jim himself, in his own words, with the pride and clarity that reflected his life. His family is honored to share it just as he wished, with only light additions for context.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Karen. He is survived by his daughters Amy (Brian) Scheel and Joelle (Tom) Flug, and by his grandchildren Ethan, Sydney, Isabella, and Audrey.
Jim was deeply proud to be an American and a veteran of the United States Army’s Berlin Brigade, where he witnessed firsthand the stark differences between Western freedoms and Eastern communism—an experience that shaped his perspective for the rest of his life.
At Jim’s request, a private military ceremony and burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. As he wrote, “May God’s grace continue to shine on the Founding Fathers.”
Please join us as we celebrate Jim’s life on Saturday, May 16, 2026, 2:00-5:00 P.M. at Stillwater Country Club, 1421 N. 4th Street, Stillwater. Join Jim’s family—have one more drink on Hollywood!
