James Burton Lienhard
November 16, 1928 - May 15, 2023

James Lienhard, age 94 of North Oaks, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2023. James was born and raised in Beloit, WI and lived in the greater suburban Chicago area before retiring to Bradenton, FL where he lived for 20 years before moving to MN in 2013. James was a graduate of Northwestern University School of Music and held the degrees of Bachelors of Music and Masters of Music, graduating in 1952. James enlisted in the US Army in 1952, and in 1954 was  invited to join the prestigious 7th Army Symphony orchestra being formed in Europe. In 1955, James married his sweetheart, Norma Jean Burke, and started a career teaching music in the Wheaton, IL public schools. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend along with being a loving and caring person. He will be remembered as a talented violinist and an accomplished musician. He enjoyed conducting the church choir and planning musical events both for the church and community orchestras. He cherished God’s creation, traveling, camping and hiking often in the mountains out West. He loved attending all of his grandchildrens’ sporting events and concerts. James had a kind and humble spirit. He loved his family and he loved the Lord.

James is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 59 years, Norma Lienhard, and his parents, John and Vida Lienhard.

He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him, including his children; Karen (David) Broza, David (Cheryl) Lienhard, Steven Lienhard (David Wallis); five grandchildren; Jered, Allison, Brodie, Natalie, and Elliot; seven great-grandchildren; Lee, Levi, Essie, Rose, Bode, Tripp and Olive; sibling, Alice Fadner Woodrum.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00AM June 1, 2023 at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Rd, North Oaks, MN. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00AM at Waverly Gardens Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Waverly Gardens, North Oaks.
