James "Jim" E. Newman
Age 75 of Oakdale, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his parents Duane and Donna and grandson Ryder.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of over 52 years Ginny; children Sonja (Chris) Rose, Ross (Jessica), and Kirsten (Jake) Duesenberg; grandchildren Blake, Kelsey, Adelyn, Bowen, Colton, Conlin, Archer, and Camden; and many friends and family.
A native of the east side of St. Paul, Jim was a graduate of Harding High School Class of 1968 where he married his high school sweetheart Ginny. He attended Bemidji State University, obtaining his bachelor's degree in education. Jim worked as a Parks and Recreation Director for the City of St. Paul with a dedicated 38 year career at numerous Centers spread across the city including Conway, Eastview, Hillcrest, Baker, and Linwood. He impacted countless City employees as well as the local kids at each Center with his love of sports and commitment to their time and experiences.
Jim loved and played numerous sports growing up as well as baseball in college at Bemidji State. After moving to Oakdale, Jim cheered on Tartan sports and Stage Door dance; always present at dance recitals, hockey and baseball games. A true Minnesota sports fan, Jim was always hoping for a Twins, Vikings, Wild or Gopher hockey championship. In later life, he continued cheering for his grandchildren in all of their activities and adventures.
Whenever possible, Jim spent his time at his cabin on Blackduck Lake. He loved his long hours on the 'tractor' mowing the lawn, planting pine trees, starting a bon fire; or if time allowed doing some fishing.
Those that loved him find peace that he lived a fulfilled and happy life.
A service celebrating Jim's life will take place at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, on Monday, October 6th at 11:30am with a visitation beginning at 10am.
