November 18, 1944 — April 29, 2026

Janet Louise Swanson of Shoreview, Minnesota passed away at the age of 81 on April 29, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sven Olaf Gosta Swanson and Gunhild Elvira (née Carlson) Swanson, brother Ronald, and sister Lorraine (née Swanson) Fowler.

Janet is survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn (née Egeland) Swanson, brother-in-law David Fowler, five nephews Neil (Lourdes Aguirre) Swanson, Karl (Susan) Swanson, Daniel (Diana) Fowler, Matthew (Merry) Fowler, and Peter (Anne) Fowler, and one niece Heather (Jason) (née Swanson) Schmidt.

Janet was born on November 18, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York. Janet moved to Floral Park (Long Island), New York when she was in grade school. She graduated high school from Floral Park Memorial. She then went on to Kings College in Briarcliff Manor, New York and then Columba School of Nursing in Manhattan (New York City), New York. She achieved a masters in Nursing from Hunter College in Manhattan.

Janet worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan and also taught nursing there for several years. She then spent a few years teaching in Portland, Oregon. Finally, she finished her nursing career, working in the corporate sector for companies that included Salomon Brothers on Wall Street and New York Telephone, mostly in Brooklyn.

Outside of work Janet was always involved in her church communities and helping others, especially older single women with their financial plans. Janet was a volunteer nurse at Lakeside Christian Camp in Massachusetts for several summers. Janet enjoyed being an aunt and watching her Fowler nephews in their sports events and musical concerts. She loved her family, and they were all very important to her. She was also a devoted sports fan, especially tennis and baseball. Her favorite team was the New York Mets.

Janet moved to Shoreview in 2014 to be closer to her brother Ronald and wife Marilyn, who had moved to Minnesota in 2007. In 2019 Janet had some significant health issues that brought her to Johanna Shores Home, where she lived for the past 7 years. We are so thankful for the care she received there.
