Janice R. McLean

Grandma’s Obituary With heavy hearts, we share our loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Janice Roberta McLean, aged 84, passed away peacefully on Friday August 8th, 2025, surrounded by family in her Oak Park Heights home. Born to Christian and Roberta Fennern in Willow Lake Township, MN on October 16th, 1940. From the start, she was a stubborn German farm gal or in her words a ‘bugger’ with a loving and caring heart touched by Christ. She grew up with her two sisters, Carol and Nyleen, sharing a bond filled with laughter lasting a lifetime. Jan left home to move to Michigan to begin working at Delta. There on double date she met John McLean, the love of her life, who she went on to marry and is now overjoyed to be with again. As evident by one of the last clear statements expressed as she pointed to the heavens, “I’m coming Patty.” Over the last 84 years, she had the unique or ‘nosy’ talent of unearthing everyone’s stories. Even at the end while hospitalized, she’d uncover and share with us her doctors’ and nurses’ stories: who they were, their families, and their dreams. Her friends shared how she called almost daily, visited or hosted often, sent them cards, and blessed their lives daily. They surely touched her life as she did theirs. Evidence of her love for those in her life can be found in the boxes of cards and notes she saved over the course of decades. Anyone who was blessed with being loved by Jan knew of her giving spirit. Whether she was greeting at church, donating to her favorite charities, or trying to pass off her treasured household knick-knacks to family and friends. Those who knew her best will hold dear her humorous nature in the fond memories we cling to. Jan is survived by her loving son Kirk McLean (Leah) and daughter Kris Hudalla (Mike) along with her five grandchildren Jenny (Buck), Brianna, Jamie, Cole, and Lauren. She is preceded in death by her husband John (Pat), her sisters Carol and Nyleen with their parents Christian and Roberta. A special thank you to Dave, Joyce, Liz, and Gail for all their help and support throughout the years but especially within the last few months. To her Salem Bible Class friends, the beautiful prayer shawl given was with her until the end and is now a treasure to her family. We will miss her dearly, truly beyond words. Lastly, she would want us to share her favorite Psalm 91 and her grandson, Cole’s favorite Psalm 27, as she read them both twice a day and continued to hear them until she drew her last breath. As always and forever, you’re the best. A Celebration of life will be held on August 18th with visitation beginning at noon and the service starting at one at Woodbury Lutheran Church Oak Hill Campus. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Dakota’s Boys and Girls Ranch and Trinity First School.
