Jean Marie Peterson

78, of Somerset, WI, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025 in New Richmond, WI.

Jean was born in New Richmond on November 27, 1947. She graduated from Somerset high school in 1965. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 while studying nursing at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire. She served for nearly twenty years, receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of major, and many commendations and awards throughout her service. She also practiced nursing and healthcare administration for many years at civilian hospitals in St. Paul, MN and Barre, VT. She touched the lives of many patients and staff in her various professional roles.

Jean dedicated herself to raising her only child, Sarah, and was later lovingly cared for by her daughter, and many others, on her journey living with dementia. She also had several 'adopted' daughters and grandkids whom she loved very much. She had many passions, including travel, baking, knitting and music. She had an active spiritual life and loved praise and worship. She was a faithful Boston Red Sox fan who never missed an opportunity to bring friends and family to a game at Fenway Park.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Beverly Peterson.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Peterson; siblings, Marcia Mittelsdorf, Richard Peterson, Myrna Plourde, and Mary Beth (Terry) Eckstrom; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00am on January 9, 2026, at The Church of Saint Anne, 141 Church Hill Road, Somerset, WI. Massl at 11am.
