Jeanne Marie Boeh Fleming was born February 15, 1952 in Atchison, Kansas and passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. Jeanne was a woman of extraordinary love and kindness. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She gave her children unconditional love, gentle guidance, and unwavering support. Her compassionate heart, wise words, and generous support extended to enrich the lives of her siblings, and nieces and nephews as well.
She grew up in Lombard, Illinois as the oldest of a large family. After graduating from Montini High School she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she attained a PhD in Economics. Her field of interest was microeconomics with a focus on urban and health economics. She and her beloved husband, Bernhard Fleming, met when working together at the research firm of Duff and Phelps. Their marriage was built on deep affection, companionship, and unwavering commitment. The couple moved from Chicago to the Twin Cities and Jeanne began teaching at Augsburg University in 1990. In her professional life she served on the Minneapolis Star Tribune Board of Economics, was honored to guest semi-regularly on TPT Almanac program, and served as an economist for the American Hospital Association and Illinois Hospital Association. Jeanne was very pleased to be established as the inaugural Sundquist Endowed Professor of Business Administration in 2019. In 2024 Jeanne was delighted to become the first School of Business and Economics Director, which she truly considered a crowning achievement in her successful career. One of Jeanne's great joys was helping both students and faculty navigate the sometimes turbulent waters of the college experience.
Among her other joys were gardening, running, spending time at the family cabin in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin and enjoying the company of family and friends. Jeanne was an incredible facilitator and generator of family memories. She was an impeccable host, always making sure that everyone was comfortable, fed, and having fun. She was a wonderful cook and took great joy in preparing delicious meals and bringing people together around her table.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Joan and Thomas Boeh, as well as siblings Jerome and Mary Beth. She is survived by her husband, Bern, her daughter Kendra, her son Gavin and his wife Danielle and their daughter Micah, five siblings, many nieces and nephews, and other family members. Jeanne's memory will be a blessing to all those fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.
Jeanne's service will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota with available livestream on Saturday, November 7th at 11a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10a.m. Memorials may be sent to the Professor Jeanne Boeh Scholarship at Augsburg University, 2211 Riverside Ave, CB 142, Minneapolis, MN 55454.
