Jennifer Lenore Berg

Age 52 of Lake Elmo, MN passed away on Thursday, August 20th, 2026.

She is preceded in death by her father Jack DuRocher; four grandparents; brother-in- law Nick; and her beloved dogs Dixie, Emme, Shelbe, and Mattie.

She will be sadly missed by the love of her life, her husband Jeff; mother Valerie DuRocher-Koutek (Larry Koutek); sister Joy (Kyle) Irwin; parents-in-law Jim and Mary; siblings-in-law Kathy Jolly, Sue (Tim) Palmer, Steve (Karyn); and 11 nieces and nephews.

Jennie was a force of nature-brilliant, deeply skilled, and endlessly generous. She was the kind of person who could build a wall, stain a deck, and then sit down to teach cello or piano, then kick everyone's butt at cards after cooking everyone an amazing meal. She lived life with a hands-on confidence and a joyful, spirited drive, whether that meant creative lawn mowing, sailing, or quietly sharing a sly laugh over a winning pull-tab.

Above all, Jennie was a sanctuary for the people she loved. She had a rare, nurturing gift for making others feel entirely safe, offering just the right mix of care, honest guidance, and unconditional warmth. Her hospitality was legendary-from hosting meals around the kitchen table to making strawberry shortcakes for a wedding or simply baking cookies for the law enforcement team working down the street.

Whether navigating a stormy dinghy ride in the dark to take care of her husband or welcoming her surrogate granddaughter into her arms, Jennie moved through the world with resilience, laughter, and an open heart. Her light shone brightly in every life she touched, leaving us all stronger, wiser, and feeling deeply loved.

Jen was an exceptional life partner and friend, who loved deeply and openly. She was brilliant, and cared deeply about everything that she did, improving everyone whose lives she touched. She found her calling in life within the last year and a half, as a substitute teacher to a group of wonderful kids at Hazel Park Preparatory Academy. She was beloved by all the children that she spent time with throughout her life and she was a font of love and understanding for them. Jen built a family of people from all walks of life that shared one thing in common, that we all loved her as one of the very best people that have ever walked the Earth.

Though the shock and the pain of Jennie's passing is a hollowing feeling, her family draws comfort from the final gift she was able to give in death--life-saving donation through LifeSource. Jennie had such a giving nature that she could not go quietly from this world, her last act was to give the gift of hope, relief, and improved quality of life to between 70 and 100 plus people. She will never be replaced, but her memory will live on with each of us, and she will live on through the people she saves.

A celebration of Jen's life will take place at Lake Elmo Inn Event Center on October 25th from noon to 4 pm. Please come as you are with a story of Jennie to share.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made in Jennifer's name to Valley Outreach.
