Preceded in death by parents, Cyrus & Bessie. Survived by wife, Dorothy; daughters, Marilyn, and Barbara Hanawalt (Mark); son, Gregory; grandchildren, Melanie Boughman (Robb), Michael Hanawalt (Justine), Matthew, David and Daniel Hanawalt; great-grandchildren, Max and Madeline Boughman. John was born in Fort Dodge, IA, graduated from high school in Manson, IA, was awarded a BSEE degree from the University of Iowa and married Dorothy Howard on December 23, 1943. He served in WWII as a First Lieutenant on the submarine USS Sea Fox. He started his career at Westinghouse, followed by Honeywell where he retired after 35 years. Memorial service Sunday, September 6, 2:30 P.M. at PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 5050 Hodgson Rd., North Oaks. Memorials are preferred to Peace UMC Parish Nurse Program or Allina Hospice Care.
