John "Jay" Rechtiene

Age 80 of Stillwater, MN passed away on Monday, September 21st, 2026.

Jay is preceded in death by parents Joe and Curly, brother Tom and sister Mary Kay

Beloved husband and soulmate to wife Bonnie of 58 years ; sons Joe and Marlo, Jeff and Ashley, Jon and Shannon; Proud Papa to 8 grandchildren Rylee, Ashlyn, Blake, Alec, Brody, Vienne, Gavin, Ajay; siblings; Patty Jo, Anetta, Ann and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Jay was born in Saint Paul, MN and raised in Falcon Heights where he graduated from Cretin High School. He met Bonnie shortly after and the two were married in 1968. Jay worked for Control Data (Ceridian) in procurement as a contract negotiator and later with Metro Travel.

Jay was a strong leader throughout his life. He loved coaching his boys' sports teams and attending all their games. Jay adored being a Papa and loved every minute spent with grandkids. Jay spent many years with Bonnie on the St. Croix and have met many life-long friends in the river community. Jay will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, happy demeanor, and ability to fight through tough situations.

A celebration of life gathering will take place at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater on Friday, October 9th from 10-1pm. In honor of him, please come dressed in Jay's favorite Minnesota sports attire. (Wild/Twins/Vikings)
