John Edward Slaughter of Stillwater, MN, passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born to parents Frank and Helen (Katner) in Stillwater, MN. His fondest childhood memory was being a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1951 and from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and was a proud Golden Gopher fan. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a longtime employee of Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1960, he married Jeanette Jungbauer, and together they had five children. He loved to travel and play bridge, but most of all he loved spending time with family.
John is survived by his children Cathy (Matt Burt) Murphy, Steve (Sheryl) Slaughter, Mary (Jerry) Dick, and Sue (Brian) Day; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and special partner, Aljean Ostrand.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; daughter, Julie; and siblings Ruth, Mary, and Dave.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lake Elmo Event Center (3712 Layton Ave N, Lake Elmo, MN 55042). Please dress in Gopher attire to honor him and bring a favorite story to share.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minneapolis VA.
