Josephine "Joey" Ruth Lundquist, PE

Joey, age sixty-seven, was born in Stillwater, MN to William "Bill" and Jeanne (Moorhead) Lundquist on December 30th, 1958. She was the 6th of 7 children. She grew up on the family farm just north of Lake Elmo where Discovery Crossing is now located. She especially enjoyed traveling with family, hiking, canoeing on the St. Croix, the horses and the apple orchard. She enjoyed playing the piano and growing up with all her siblings, neighbors and 4-H family. She graduated from Stillwater High School, Class of 1977. She graduated with her B.S. in Geo-Engineering from the U of MN. She worked briefly for Schlumberger in ND (until the price of gas in the early 80s shut down all exploration). She returned to MN and completed her M.S. in Civil Engineering, also from the U of MN. She went on to earn her PE (Professional Engineer). She worked for LA County, CA Sanitation District and returned to MN in 1989 to do environmental work for Barr Engineering.

For almost 30 years, she worked in design and project management on transportation projects for MnDOT, Rani Engineering and Ramsey County. She was proud of being a go-to person on unusual projects of any size, focusing on the design process at MnDOT and most recently Ramsey County. She worked on many of the road projects we drive over. She received many awards and recognition from MnDOT for her work. She especially enjoyed the teams of people she worked with to complete projects; was a creative problem solver; and enjoyed resolving issues as projects developed. She loved any opportunity to mentor others!

Outside of work, she was an energy healer (Reiki and Spring Forest Qigong), which she totally believed in and loved. She loved spending time with family and golfing with her coworkers. She loved being creative with knitting and crocheting projects. She was loved for all her efforts to visit and stay in touch with cousins in Montana. She helped Suzy raise Kyler. She was a tremendous caregiver; especially looking after family whenever the need arose. She will be sorely missed and was deeply loved by family and friends. 

She is loved and survived by her siblings; Vicky (Gerald) Harris; Kristina "Kris"; George; Betsy; Martha (Tim) Healy; Susy; and her nieces and nephew: Marisa Brown; Holly (Mark) St Germain; Kyler: Carrie (Robin) Schmitz. 

There will be a Celebration of Joey's life on Sunday, September 27th from 4-7 pm at Marisa's restaurant - The Copper Hen - 2515 Nicollet Ave Minneapolis, MN. Parking is provided in the lot across from the restaurant. 

Because we know Joey would approve, we wanted to share that her heart attack symptoms were not obvious, as women's often aren't. She had no known heart issues and was unaware she had diabetes. After eating out, she developed excessive burping and was dizzy, which passed. The following day, she was nauseous, which later developed into food poisoning like (severe flu) symptoms. These symptoms improved but by day 4, she was simply feeling poorly enough she finally agreed to go into the ER. She had so much heart damage, it was simply not survivable.
