Joyce Lou Kjeldseth, 82, of White Bear Lake, passed away on March 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by parents Lulu and Jay Lessard of Duluth, MN, and former husband Larry R. Kjeldseth. She is survived by daughter Kari Elizabeth Godfrey, son-in-law Forest Godfrey, son Jayson Kjeldseth, and her beloved cat Kiya.
Joyce was born on December 9, 1941 in Duluth, MN and lived in Silver Bay, MN for most of her childhood. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in education. She was an elementary education teacher with St. Paul Public Schools for over 30 years and her passion for educational leadership and love of children provided her with a rewarding career and many lasting friendships. She liked to travel and went on many adventures out west with her family and family friends. She enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, New England, and Canada, and loved visiting Ireland, England, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Norway, and Alaska. She was always happy to escape the Minnesota winter to vacation in Florida with relatives and friends.
Joyce loved to read and was active in book club and Bible study. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she really liked studying the Bible and attending Eagle Brook Church. She enjoyed living in White Bear Lake and spending time with the Hobe Lane friends, and had a lot of fun with them on boating outings on Bald Eagle Lake. She always had time for, and loved being with her family. Her family always came first and she was extremely giving and thoughtful to all. She loved her pets throughout the years: her dogs Tiger, Dandy, and Freddie, her cat Ralphie, and most recently, her cat Kiya, who was always by her side. She had a generous spirit and often contributed to those less fortunate, whether it was packing backpacks for children in need, or donating to various organizations such as Second Harvest Heartland and Disabled American Veterans.
Joyce will be greatly missed by her family, her former teaching colleagues, and her lifelong neighborhood friends whom she adored. She was a good friend to many, and a best friend to her daughter who will cherish and love her forever.
Burial will take place Saturday, April 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, April 21 at Bradshaw Funeral Home in White Bear Lake. 4600 Greenhaven Dr, White Bear Lake, MN 55127.
