Kathryn Ann (DeFelice) Francy-Payton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, passed away on April 25, 2024, in Mahtomedi, Minnesota at the age of 82. Kathryn was born on January 19, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to a loving family.
 
A woman of remarkable dedication and resilience, Kathryn's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her Catholic faith and her fervent belief in the importance of caring for others. She touched numerous lives through her work as a juvenile social worker and as an educator at St. Paul Open School. Despite facing challenges as a single mother, Kathryn pursued higher education and earned a master's degree—a testament to her intelligence and determination.
 
Kathryn's legacy extends far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was known for her green thumb and spent countless hours beautifying the grounds of St. Patrick's Catholic Church with vibrant flowers. Her nurturing spirit and compassionate nature were evident in everything she did, teaching those around her the value of kindness and empathy.
 
In addition to her dedication to her work and faith, Kathryn cherished spending winters in Florida with her beloved husband, Michael Payton. Their time together was filled with warmth and joy, creating cherished memories that will live on forever.
 
Kathryn is survived by a large and loving family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her children: Kate Francy, John Francy, Lynn (Dan) Simonson, Susan (Stuart) Samuelson, Patty (Gary) Skroch, Keith Payton, Kelly Payton, Courtney Redmond; grandchildren: Lauren, Samantha, Brandon, Megan, Connor, Garrett, Clare, Hayden, Hunter, Marissa, Zachary, Amber, Tommy, Max; great-grandson: Vincent, Ray, Knoxley and Ari; siblings: Lee (Augie) Payne, John DeFelice, Michael DeFelice and her dear friend of over 50 years Carroll Franco.
 
She is preceded in death by her husband Michael Payton; grandson Aaron Simonson; parents, Michael and Catherine; and brother Joseph DeFelice.
 
Kathryn's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing that she has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered throughout her exceptional life.
 
A memorial service is planned for 11:00am Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1095 Desoto Street, St. Paul, with visitation one hour prior. Memorials preferred to Unbound or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
