Kay Fredericks

Kay L. Fredericks of North Oaks, born May 9, 1943, in Glenwood, MN, passed away on September 3, 2026, peacefully in her home.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband Richard M. Cisek.

Survived by her Stepchildren Michael (Corey) Cisek, Melanie (Michael) Hougo, Maria (Paul Anderson) Cisek, 5 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters and many cherished friends.

Kay graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1965 and taught kindergarten in White Bear Lake. She then discovered a talent for creating stimulating classroom designs, and was the pioneer in creating Scratch 'n' Sniff Stinky Stickers. In 1967 she launched TREND Enterprises, Inc, which developed into an empire that employed over 300 employees and operated out of two locations selling over 3200 proprietary products in 56 countries around the world.

Kay served on the board of directors of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Bank, and was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Hamline University. She also served on the Advisory Council on Small Business, Agriculture and Labor for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and the Governor's Council on Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Kay was an ardent supporter of the Minnesota Orchestra for decades with great love for classical music. She was the first woman to serve as President of a major metropolitan-based Scouts Council, in 1995-1997, and was a member of the board of directors from 1986 to 2025. She was a recipient of the Distinguished Community Builder Award and the Scoutmaster of Philanthropy Award from Northern Star Scouting.

Kay was named the Minnesota Woman Business Owner of the Year by NAWBO - MN. In 1997, she received the chapter's Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2013 was received into their Hall of Fame.

Funeral service at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, Minneapolis, 519 Oak Grove St, Minneapolis, MN, on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 2:00pm. Memorials preferred to St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral Music Series.
