Kevin Hynes of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025. He was a beloved resident at Whittier Place for many years. Kevin was born on April 1, 1955 and attended South High School.
Kevin loved the outdoors, and would often bike or play golf at a neighborhood course. Even in the winter he wanted to be outdoors as much as possible, whether it was to ice skate, play hockey, or go sledding at the Town and Country Golf Club. Kevin had a close relationship with his brother John. They would ride their bikes to Lake Nokomis to swim and get together with the neighborhood guys to play poker. Kevin had a competitive nature and loved to win. But despite his desire to always come out on top, Kevin was fiercely loyal. He hated bullying and was always the first person to step in if someone needed him.
Kevin was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 17. His initial years were challenged by the disease, but eventually he found peace with effective medication and the support of his family and the Whittier Place staff.
Kevin will be remembered as a quiet, soft spoken, and humble man. He was always grateful and never had a bad word to say about anything or anyone. He truly was a gentle and kind soul.
Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Patrica Hynes, and sister Theresa Hynes. He is survived by siblings John (Michelle) Hynes, Sharon (Brad) Mickelson, Maureen (Gary) Quick, Cynthia (Steve) Roh; nieces and nephews Jonathan, Nicole, Allison, Lynnea, Janelle, Abigail, Ava and Augie.
