Kevin Patrick Hynes

April 1, 1955 — September 11, 2025

Minneapolis

Kevin Hynes of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025. He was a beloved resident at Whittier Place for many years. Kevin was born on April 1, 1955 and attended South High School.

Kevin was a lover of the outdoors. If it was nice outside, he could be seen riding his bike or playing golf at some of the neighborhood courses. Even in the winter he wanted to be outdoors as much as possible, whether it was to ice skate, play hockey or go sledding at the Town and Country Golf Club. He also had a close relationship with his brother John. They would ride their bikes to Lake Nokomis to swim or get together with the neighborhood guys to play poker. Kevin had a competitive nature and loved to win. But despite his desire to always come out on top, Kevin was fiercely loyal as well. He hated bullying and was always the first person to step in if someone needed him.

Kevin was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 17. His initial years were challenged by the disease, but eventually he found peace with effective medication and the support of his family and the Whittier Place staff.

Kevin will be remembered as a quiet, soft spoken and always grateful man for everything in life. He never had a bad word to say or complained about anything or anyone. He truly was a gentle and kind soul.

Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Patrica Hynes, and sister Theresa Hynes. He is survived by siblings John (Michelle) Hynes, Sharon (Brad) Mickelson, Maureen (Gary) Quick, Cynthia (Steve) Roh; nieces and nephews Jonathan, Nicole, Allison Lynnea, Janelle, Abigail, Ava and Augie.

A visitation will be held at Bradshaw Funeral & Cremation, 3131 Minnehaha Ave South, Minneapolis at 11:00 am on Sunday, November 23 followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm. A private burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations to Whittier Place will be accepted at the service.
