Kimberly Schultz

d. June 20, 2025

Minneapolis, MN

With heavy hearts we share that Kimberly Elizabeth-Tauer Schultz, age 48, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on June 20, 2025 from a rare and aggressive form of uterine cancer (PiMHEC). Her husband, Daniel Schultz, was at her side.

Kim was born on October 13, 1976, in Duluth, MN. Kim grew up in Twig, Saint Paul and Forest Lake, MN. After graduating from Forest Lake Area High School in 1995, Kim attended college at Northwestern College in Roseville, MN, Covenant Bible College (CBC) in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, and graduated from North Park University in Chicago, IL with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1999. During college, she had service learning experiences in Haiti and South Africa.

Kim lived a life marked by care for others, a commitment to social justice, a deep dedication to healing (self, others, community) and love for her family and friends. She enjoyed photography, singing, the dog park, and many family and friend trips up north, as well as California to visit family and her brother Nate.

Kim and Dan married on October 26th, 2002 and moved into a 1.5 story home in Minneapolis that was built in 1924. They spent a lot of time remodeling their home and nurturing a pollinator, wildlife, dog, and kid friendly yard and neighborhood.

Kim obtained her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of St. Thomas/College of St. Catherine in 2008. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Kim had a thriving therapy practice at Mindful Way Counseling working with children, teens, adults, and families. She also worked previously as a therapist at Washburn Center for Children. Kim was dedicated to trauma-informed practices, including EMDR, Brainspotting, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Anchored Relational Therapy and Internal Family Systems. Kim had a deep respect for each client’s cultural background and world view and had a meaningful way of making clients feel extremely cared for in their work together. She was also a Board Approved Clinical Social Work Supervisor, supporting clinicians who are working to obtain LICSW licensure.

Prior to her work as a mental health therapist, Kim spent a significant portion of her career working at nonprofit organizations including Hope Community, Bloomington Public Schools, Southside Family Nurturing Center and People Incorporated. Kim was also a volunteer, vendor, board member and board president for The World Jubilee, an organization that hosts a fair trade market of goods made by artisans from around the world.

Kim and Dan expanded their family through adoption on June 28th, 2018 with the addition of Isaac, Icis, Isabella, and Izzarra. Kim loved each of her children deeply.

Kim was preceded in death by her natural father Theodore “Ted” Smith; grandparents Aini and Bernard Myking, Ruth and Rudy Smith, Irving and Arlene Tauer; great aunt Dorothy Schadegg; beloved dogs (Bernie, Vinny, and Oscar) and Doc the cat. She is survived by her husband Dan; children Isaac (16), Icis (15), Isabella (13), and Izzarra “Izzy” (11); mother Elizabeth (Paul) Baxter; father Michael (John Juettner) Tauer; brothers Nathan (Luna) Tauer, Todd (Monika) Brickson, Dean (Lonni) Brickson and Kyle (Harper) Brickson; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; and a vast network of beloved friends, and Pretzel the dog.

A gathering to remember and celebrate Kim’s life will be held at Silverwood Park (Silverwood Great Hall, 2500 County Road E; St. Anthony, MN 55421) on Monday, July 28 from 3:00 - 8:00pm, with a special ceremony at 6:00pm. There will be music, photos, light snacks, and time to visit with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, cards or support for the family can be sent to Bradshaw Funeral Home (3131 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406) or by Venmo to @MollyMathesonGruen.
