Lawrence “Ole” Oliver Cadwell, age 87 of New Richmond, WI and formerly of Webster and Mahtomedi passed away on Saturday, January 10th 2026 at the St. Croix Health Center.
Ole was born on February 19th 1938 in St. Paul to parents, Lawrence and Helen (Jensen) Cadwell. He is survived by his sons Jerry (Marla) Cadwell, John (Kelly) Cadwell, daughter Marie (Richard) Saltness, grandchildren Jennie (Martin) Bowers, Jake Cadwell, Amber Saltness (David Berger), Llewelyn Scott, great grandson Micah Bowers, siblings Marvin (Sue), Jeanette, sisters-in-law Pat and Diane. He is also survived by his partner of over 30 years Dorothy Hillman, her son Jeffrey Hillman, her grandchildren, and many other friends that they considered family. Dorothy and her family were very special to Ole and they became like a second family to him in the second half of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helen, stepmother Clara, his wife Helga Schmidt Cadwell, his brothers Jim and Jack and surrogate son Tom Hillman.
Ole was a Radar Technician in the Air Force and stationed overseas in Germany where he met Helga Schmidt and brought her back to the United States to start their family. They were married in 1959 and raised their children in Mahtomedi, MN. He and Helga took their children on many trips to Germany throughout their lives to stay in touch with Helga’s family and enjoyed hosting her relatives for visits as well. He spent his entire career working as an engineer at Ramsey, a position he was very dedicated to. He was also skilled in woodworking which he enjoyed as a hobby. He spent the last several decades living on Lake Viola and enjoyed fishing and tinkering in his workshop during his retirement.
A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Saturday January 24th at Bradshaw Celebration of Life, located at 2800 Curve Crest Blvd in Stillwater. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and the service will be followed by a dinner.
The family would like to especially thank the staff and caretakers at the St. Croix Health Center and his hospice team for the care given and compassion shown these last few months.
