LARRICK
Lillian Lavonnne (nee Fields)
July 21, 1924 - Jan 24, 2013
Of Mahtomedi, MN passed away peacefully. She was born on a farm near Parker, KS to Jess R and Margaret Hahn Fields and had a dearly beloved sister, Wanda Fields Howell. There was no electricity or running water in the house until much later. The girls walked to a 1 room schoolhouse until 9th grade. Thanks to a wind charger on the roof, the family listened to Hit Parade on the radio every Saturday night.
After attending Parker High School, Lillian went to Kansas City, KS to study stenography at Brown-Mackie School of Business. She worked at the Kansas City Kansan newspaper, Aircraft Accessories, and the Veteran's Administration.
In September 1949 she married the late Carl Armour Larrick, Jr. and moved to Sunflower, KS while Carl attended KU. During the Korean War, Carl tended war wounded at Fort Carson Hospital in Colorado Springs. Later he joined the Food & Drug Admin and the family lived in Denver, Detroit and for 37 years in Omaha, ENE.
In Omaha, Lillian worked at the US Army Draft Board and the Corps of Engineers. Carl and Lil loved travel around the world, and for many years enjoyed summer trips to a log cabn on the Gallatin River in Montana. They retired to Mahtomedi, MN to enjoy the balmy weather.
Lillian is survived by four children who think she is the Best Mom in the World: Penny L (Robert E) Howard of Chapel Hill, NC & their children, S Margaret and Duncan R; Steven R Larrick (Janine Copple) of Lincoln, NE & their son Anthony A; Bradford K (Sachiko Obata) Larrick of Takahagi, Japan & their son Julian S; and Laurie A (Mark S) Windisch of Stillwater, MN & their children Sarah A and Daniel S.
Lillian is also survived by beloved nephews and nieces in Wichita and Kansas City and treasured family and friends across the country.
