Margaret Prescott

Margaret Prescott of Stillwater Minnesota, passed away on June 22, 2024 at the age of 75. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Jonathan, as well as son, Benjamin, his wife, Lauren Hannnah, and grandson, Max.

Dr. Prescott grew up in Milltown, NJ, and attended Tufts University and Boston University School of Medicine. She did further training at the Mallory Institute of Pathology in Boston. She performed post-doctoral research at Ciba-Geigy in Basel, Switzerland in order to be able to join her husband Jonathan, who was an opera singer performing in Europe. She became a leader of a Ciba-Geigy laboratory, studying restenosis and vascular healing.

After many years in Europe, Margaret and Jonathan moved to New Jersey. There Margaret worked for Novartis Pharmaceuticals (formerly Ciba-Geigy) for over 30 years, first in preclinical studies of vascular disease, then in Cardiovascular Clinical Development where she headed the biomarker activities for Novartis clinical trials in Heart Failure, Coronary Artery Disease, and Thrombosis. She was an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in Piscataway, NJ and a Guest Professor at the Charite Medical University in Berlin, Germany. She served on numerous task forces and peer review committees for both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Heart Association. She routinely lectured at medical conferences nationally and internationally and was a frequent Grand Rounds lecturer. In 1996 she had the honor of being the first female chairperson at the Medical and Dental University in Tokyo, Japan. She developed presentations on "Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease in Women" and "Symptoms of Stroke in Women" geared to the lay audience and lectured on this topic at medical centers and at numerous American Heart Association "Go Red for Women" events.

Margaret and Jonathan recently moved to Stillwater, MN from Millburn, NJ. Margaret was active at Trinity Church in Stillwater. She had two passions besides her family, her Deutsch-Drahthaar hunting dogs and wine education. She formed Women's Wine Tasting Groups wherever she moved, including Basel, Millburn, and Stillwater. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pine Ridge Retreat Center's Job Corps Program, 51 East Highway 18, Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
