Margaret Elizabeth Sorensen
June 18, 1931 - January 23, 2026

Margaret Elizabeth Sorensen passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at Langton Shores in Roseville, Minnesota, at the age of 94.

She is survived by her children: Chris (Steve) Thiers, Scott (Julie), and Kirk (Peggy); grandchildren Jaclyne (Chris) Jandro, Ashlee (Sean) Doheny, and Sarah (Ellie Steiner) Sorensen; and great-grandchildren Kaiden, Shawn, Archie, and Maddie. She is also survived by many loving caregivers and dear friends.

Marg was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents, Robert and Barbara Whitaker; her in-laws, Art and Dagmar Sorensen; and her granddaughters Jessica Thiers and Jennica (Chad) Ciezki.

Born in Minneapolis, Marg graduated from Central High School and later attended Macalester College. At Central, she met many close friends, including her future husband, Roger. She remained close with many of these friends throughout her life.

Marg was deeply devoted to her family. She was always deeply involved in her children's activities, whether they be educational, sports, or vocation related. She served as president of the local PTA while her children were in grade school. She had family on her mother's side in Eau Clair, Wisconsin that she was very close to. She stayed in close contact with them and always enjoyed the trip to Eau Claire to visit.

Civically, Marg was very active in St. Paul, especially with the St. Paul Winter Carnival. It was a passion she and her husband, Roger. Marg was a four year member of the Winter Carnival Board of Directors and was Board Secretary from 1976 to 1977. She was also a past president of the Carnival Women's Division and served two years as Royal Schedule Coordinator. Her greatest honor was being appointed the first female chairperson of the 1978 Winter Carnival. She was also active in the Jaycee Wives and the Innijiska Club, through which she made many lifelong friends.

Marg loved to travel, both near and far. In 1960, the family built a North Woods cabin that remains in the family today. Marg also had a deep affection for the North Shore and owned a condo in Two Harbors overlooking the rugged shores of Lake Superior. At some point, she and Roger discovered they enjoyed Florida in the winter so they acquired a unit on the white shores of Destin. Marg also enjoyed seeing the world and took many international trips; some with Roger and others with her close-knit group of girlfriends.

Most of all, Marg loved dogs, especially Schnauzers. Over the years, the family had four that they traveled everywhere with: Cocoa, Muffy, Happy I, and Happy II. May they all rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, at Johanna Shores (3200 Lake Johanna Blvd, Arden Hills, MN 55112) at 1:00 p.m., with visitation held one hour prior.
