Marian Doris Anderson

Oct 1, 1943 — Oct 16, 2026

Marian embarked on her final adventure on October 16, 2026, following a life filled with meaningful work, wonderful friendships, far-flung travels, and a seemingly endless appreciation for the beautiful things in life.

Born on October 1, 1943, to Pat and Fay Carlson, Marian grew up in South Minneapolis, where she formed friendships that would last a lifetime. She treasured time spent with family, including her younger brother, Gary, and her cousins.

Marian graduated from Roosevelt High School before receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin. Throughout her career, she touched countless lives through her work in private practice and at Children's Home Society of Minnesota and Southwest High School. She eventually returned to her alma mater, Roosevelt High School, where she served as a school counselor before retiring. Even in retirement, she continued to make a difference in the lives of children as a guardian ad litem.

Marian's love of travel began with a post-college girls' trip to Europe, a journey that may or may not have included driving a rental car into a body of water. Whatever happened, one thing was certain: the travel bug had bitten. From then on, Marian was always dreaming about her next adventure or enjoying time in a favorite destination, near or far. Her travels took her to Italy, China, Turkey, and beyond, along with many cruises and an annual pilgrimage to Grand Marais on Minnesota's spectacular North Shore of Lake Superior.

A collector of beautiful things, Marian had a remarkable eye for art, jewelry, and all things distinctive. Whether exploring a gallery, browsing a local art fair, or discovering treasures in a faraway country, she rarely passed up an opportunity to find something special to bring home. Her condo reflected her passions with extraordinary art on nearly every inch of wall, a collectable object in every nook, and countless drawers bursting with artisan jewelry. Her great eye extended to photography, a talent she shared with the world through the photo cards she created and sold.

When she wasn't traveling or hunting for her next treasure, Marian could often be found enjoying live theater, listening to music, savoring a great glass of wine, gathering with friends over a fabulous meal or spending time with her cat, Baby. Above all, she cherished her family and was deeply involved in the life of her son and his family. They shared many trips and adventures together, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Marian leaves behind lasting friendships, beautiful discoveries and very memorable opinions. Marian is preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her son and his family.
