Marilyn was born September 7, 1930 in Valley City, North Dakota to Fred and Marie Pedersen. She grew up in Dazey, ND, the youngest of six. She was very proud of her Pedersen family and their Danish heritage. There were so many stories of growing up in Dazey; they didn’t have much money, but they had a lot of love, and a sense of humor, too. As her siblings grew up, married and had families, Marilyn had an extended family of sisters and brothers in-law that she also loved. Her nieces and nephews were very dear to her. Marilyn loved her Pedersen family.
Marilyn met the love of her life, Lyle Dahl, at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Their first meeting was a much loved and often told story - they were lab partners, dissecting cats in Comparative Anatomy. Marilyn and Lyle were married on December 29, 1952 and celebrated over 60 years of marriage until Lyle’s death in 2013. They lived briefly in Washington, North Dakota, Colorado, before settling in Coon Rapids, MN. Coon Rapids was home for over 50 years. Marilyn loved Lyle.
Marilyn and Lyle found another home at Faith Lutheran Church. They met many dear and lifelong friends at Faith. Marilyn taught bible studies, sang in the choir, and served as the funeral luncheon coordinator for many years. She and Lyle, along with two other couples who were dear friends, volunteered weekly at Camelia Rose Nursing Home. Marilyn’s faith in God’s love for all was central to her life. Marilyn loved Faith Lutheran Church and its people.
Marilyn was a world class homemaker. She kept a beautiful and clean house and prepared home-cooked meals for her family. Decades of serving three meals a day adds up to a lot of love shared! The cookie jar was almost always full. She loved arranging fresh flowers, planting her vegetable and flower gardens, canning in the fall, having friends for tea and cookies, and having Pedersen and Dahl relatives come for a visit. The neighborhood kids knew that a knock on Marilyn’s door would likely result in a warm greeting and a cookie. Her Christmas cookie tray was legendary. Marilyn loved taking care of her family.
Marilyn loved how her family grew to include one son- and two daughters-in-law, and then grandchildren, and then their spouses, and great-grandchildren. Marilyn loved her grandson Kevin, whose life was cut short in 2019. Marilyn loved her family.
As you can tell, Marilyn loved. And she was loved. We will miss her.
