Died at 2:50 a.m. on November 6, 2015 at The Gathering at Boutwells from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was born June 1st, 1938 in Montevideo, MN. Her parents were Walter E. " Jerry" Skeie and Adelaide (nee Croonquist) Skeie. She grew up in Watson, MN, where her father was a blacksmith and her mother taught in the one-room schoolhouse in town. After earning her BA in Education from St. Cloud State University, she received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach English in Greece, which is where she met and married her husband, Theodore Demetrios Kakaliouras on June 9, 1963. They lived in Minneapolis, Bangor, WI, then Stillwater, and over the course of her teaching career she taught both junior high and high school English in New Ulm, Golden Valley, and Holmen, WI. After retiring from teaching, she worked as a family service worker for Washington County, while also working part-time at a group home for developmentally disabled adults in Lake Elmo. She was active at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, serving as a deacon, participating in mission drives, and was a member of the Patience Circle. She also enjoyed participating in her book club, and lunches with her friends from both church and work. She is survived by daughter, Ann Kakaliouras and daughter- in- law, Rachel O'Toole of Irvine, CA; daughter, Kathy Kakaliouras and son- in- law, Quan Nguyen of St. Paul, MN; brother, Bruce Skeie and sister- in- law, Joanne Skeie of Coon Rapids, MN and nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Ted Kakaliouras. Memorial service Thursday, November 12th at 1:30PM with visitation beginning at 12:30PM at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 6201 Osgood Avenue N. Stillwater. Interment Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lakeview Hospice.
