Marlin "Butch" H. Hansen

Age 83 of Lino Lakes, MN passed away embraced by his loved ones on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Merling Hansen and Rose Carol (Jensen) Hansen; his three sisters, Gloria Rose McLean, Geraldine Joan Letourneau, Lois Ann Moroney; and his trusted canine friend, Coco.

He is survived by his ex-wife & lifelong friend, Ruth; three children, Sarra, Rose, and Marlin; three grandchildren, Airianna, Katie, and Eleanor; and girlfriend, Jeanine.

Marlin, aka "Butch", attended Shattuck preparatory school before graduating from White Bear Lake High School. He then went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Economics from Hamline University. He served in the United States Navy most notably aboard the USS Forrest Sherman during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In his later career, he worked as a chemical engineer for Dow Chemical, Pinturas Popular, Glidden, Cortec Corp. and Marlin Engineering. Nomadically living in Minnesota, Michigan, the Dominican Republic and Alabama. He spoke English and Spanish fluently.

Marlin enjoyed good company and open-minded conversations spanning politics, religion, astronomy, spirituality, humor, and current events. He enjoyed growing plants, listening to classic rock, working on his classic cars and sharing his love of mechanics with his children. Marlin avidly tinkered with projects and often engineered creative alternatives in his past time. Throughout his life, you could find him sailing, traveling, snorkeling, dancing, biking or competitively swimming. He was extremely proud of the children he raised and enjoyed sharing his love of them and their successes to his friends. Collecting friends everywhere he went, maintaining relationships close to home & internationally for decades as if they were still brand new.

Marlin will be missed for his eclectic and nomadic lifestyle, his love of sharing music, and his emails or phone calls to discuss the world's latest events or his current projects.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear, Minnesota, followed by Honor Guard presentation at his burial at Oakland Cemetery, at 927 Jackson Street, St Paul. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of cut flowers, please direct memorials to Gertens.com which replants Marlin's favorite trees & flowers on the Hansen family land to be enjoyed for generations to come. Flowers and Trees may be sent to the Bradshaw Funeral home to be displayed during service or to the family home.
