In Loving Memory of Matthew Michael Keil
It is with heavy but peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Matt after a courageous, 19 month battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Matt departed this world on July 12th, 2025 surrounded by loved ones and with joy in his heart, just as he was in life.
Matthew Michael Keil was born on July 24th, 1985 in Detroit, Michigan to Michael and Pamela Keil. Though he grew up in Wisconsin, Matt's incredible talent as a musician took him all around the world, spreading his infectious charm and laugh to multiple continents. The center of any room he was ever in, Matt possessed an uncanny ability for turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. Whether a complete stranger or a lifelong friend, no one ever left Matt's presence without a smile on their face.
After settling in Minnesota in the early 2010s, Matt married his best friend and soulmate Maddie on May 11th, 2013. They quickly got started creating the family that would become the pride and joy of Matt's life, eventually welcoming daughters Ellie and Zoey to the world. A fiercely devoted father and husband, Matt's family was the centerpiece of his life as he built a successful career as a realtor.
It is impossible to mention Matt without also mentioning his unmatched wit and sense of humor. His propensity for crafting a perfectly worded, impeccably timed joke, seemingly out of thin air, is the stuff of legend amongst his army of friends and family across the globe. Matt seemed to have a one-liner locked, loaded and ready to be deployed with laser-like precision for every situation, the more inappropriate the better. Maddie often -and rightfully- called Matt her own personal comedian.
Though Matt's time with us has come to an end, his incredible legacy of love, laughter and music lives on through his cherished daughters Ellie and Zoey, and his beloved Maddie. Matt carried joy, mischief and an unwavering passion for life everywhere he went. As Matt now peacefully rests, his legend lives on in all who had the incredible privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Matt's honor on July 24th from 4-8pm at Royal Golf Club, 11455 20th St N, Lake Elmo, MN 55042. This event is open to all family and friends who wish to share memories, offer support and celebrate Matt's legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you play your favorite song just a little too loud, make a slightly off color joke at the most inopportune moment, and love those in your life as hard as you can - just as Matt did.
