Matthew Carl Sandgren
Age 36 of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on June 23, 2025.
Matthew was born on December 4, 1988 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Anthony and Dawn Sandgren, the oldest of two children. He graduated from Minnewaska High School in 2007 and, in 2009, started his career as a butcher. He went on to become a dock foreman, a job he adored, which he did for over 10 years. He loved working alongside and by the water!
Matthew met his soulmate, Samantha, in 2004 at the age of 16. They were married on July 25, 2011 in Long Beach, Minnesota. They settled down in Alexandria and had two children, Kallie Jo, in 2012, and Caleb Matthew in 2021, whom he cherished and adored more than life itself. Matthew was an amazing father and husband, the love he showed for his wife and kids was the kind most people would search for a lifetime to find. He had the biggest heart anyone has ever seen.
Matthew loved the outdoors. He was the biggest fisherman ever and would have lived at the lake if we let him. More than anything, though, he loved being a dad and a husband. Spending time with his family was his favorite thing. He also loved camping, swimming, especially river adventures, and long drives listening to music with Sam. He loved going 4-wheeling with his son, who was obsessed with anything dad did. Matthew was Caleb's hero!
Matthew was the most loving, passionate, caring, and kind soul anyone has ever known. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. He was funny with a great sense of humor, always making someone laugh. He could walk into a crowd and have 20 new friends within 5 minutes. Matt was an amazing human who was taken way too soon, anyone who knew him loved him deeply. There is a not a day that will go by when he won't be thought of in smiling, lovable memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Eldor Carl and Sandra Lee Miller, and James Crowe; and father-in-law, Michael Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Samantha Jo Sandgren; their children, Kallie Jo and Caleb Matthew Sandgren; parents, Anthony Roy and Dawn Marie Sandgren; brother, Patrick Allen Sandgren; grandparents, Alice and Bob Nordling; in-laws, Jennifer and Robert Zamecnik; niece, Brooklyn Dreger; nephew, Landon Dreger, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral service for Matthew will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 11:30 AM at Bradshaw (1078 Rice Street) with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
