On Sunday, July 17, 2022, Me Thao entered eternal life at the age of 64. Me was born in Laos to Sher Thao and Jue Yang. She was the only surviving child but gained a loving stepmother and half siblings when her father remarried. When she was five, Me’s family escaped their wartorn country to the safety of neighboring Thailand. It was at the refugee camp that Me met Xiong Vang. They married in 1977 and gave birth to their son, Khue the following year. Me’s family would immigrate to Saint Paul, Minnesota where she and Xiong would raise five boys and two girls. Me loved children. From a young age, it was common to see her with a child at the hip and several others at her feet. She would pray for her own children every night even into their adulthood. To her nieces and nephews, she was known as the Auntie who always had a meal or snacks on hand, with a ready smile and kind words. It was no surprise that she retired at age 62 to provide full-time daycare for several of her grandchildren. Me had a sweet tooth like no other; she never turned down cake! She was known for her humble nature and was a consummate hostess with her masterful execution of family potlucks. Me was preceded in death by her mother, Jue, father, Sher, brother, sister, half-brother, Yee, and grandson, Miles.
She is survived by her stepmother, May, husband, Xiong, her seven children, Khue, Ching, Paul, Luke, Sou, Ma Lee, Martha and 13 grandchildren, Manny, Mason, Abel, Spencer, Bryson, Serena, Leo, Iris, Penny, Amelia, Paj Ntaub, Evelyn, Bailey, eight half siblings, Hlee, Ge, Dang, Kou, Zhang, Zoua, Mang, Shang and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 & 7 from 10 am – 9 pm each day at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center at 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard in Stillwater.
