Michael Charles Holter

September 24, 1941 - March 27, 2025

Age 83, of Apple Valley, MN, passed away after a protracted, rare neurological disorder which he heroically battled with his positive attitude, faith, and relentless rehabilitation. Mike was an endurance athlete until age 79 who became a power wheelchair bound tetraplegic and amputee yet returned to adapted bicycling, rock drumming, and a quality life via the Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder Unit at the VA Hospital.

Mike grew up in Mpls. He graduated from Washburn High School and attended the U of MN. While in high school and college, Mike was a drummer in a rock band. He served in the Army as a meteorologist during the Vietnam War era. Mike worked for the Mpls. Park Board for 35 years and became a supervisor (Minnehaha Park). Mike ran 8 marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He was active in AA for over 50 years. Mike was a senior bicycle club member.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Michael R. Holter and Margaret (nee Chipka),; stepmother, Florence Holter; and brother, Cary Holter. Mike is survived by long term life partner, Marsha Ellingson, and her children: Dr. Peter Ellingson (Kim), along with their children, Connor, Pierce, and Paige, and Darin Ellingson (Mishi); brother, David Holter (Gail Reich); sister, Sally Holter; nephew, Clark White (Ustadza); and many special cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 12:00 P.M. at ST ALBERT THE GREAT CHURCH, 2836 33rd Ave S. Visitation Monday, April 7, 6-8:00 P.M. at BRADSHAW, 3131 Minnehaha Ave S, as well as one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial Resurrection Cemetery.
