Norbert Streufert

Norbert A. Streufert, 95, of North Oaks, passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2024 and is now with the Lord. Norbert will be remembered as a man of strong faith, a committed husband, and father and grandfather who has impacted the lives of thousands in service to the Lord as a parish pastor and theology professor.

Norbert was born on August 22, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Rev. Arthur C. Streufert and Lillian (Fruendt) Streufert. After graduating from high school and junior college at Concordia, St. Paul, he studied pastoral ministry at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, completing Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees by 1954. He married Eunice Cordes in June of that year. Norbert's first call was to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD in 1954. After establishing this mission congregation, he became Assistant Pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Melrose Park, IL in 1959 where he began doctoral studies at Maywood Seminary. In 1965 he joined the faculty of Concordia College, Seward, NE where he taught Christian doctrine to future Lutheran teachers. Norbert graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, IL with a Doctor of Sacred Theology degree in 1972 and completed over 20 years at Concordia as a professor in 1987.

In 1988, Norbert returned to the parish ministry in the Twin Cities. He served as a part-time and interim pastor in Lutheran congregations across the region including Bethel, St. Paul; Trinity, Hudson; Peace, Robbinsdale; Berea, Richfield and Mt. Olive, Anoka. He taught Bible class until 2019 at South Shore Trinity, White Bear Lake when he retired.

Norbert is preceded in death by his wife Eunice, daughter Ann and his brother Carl. Norbert will be missed by his children, John (Debbie) Streufert, Vic (Christen) Streufert, David Streufert and Beth (Rex) Steigerwalt; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, with 10 a.m. visitation at South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church, 2480 S. Shore Blvd., White Bear Lake. A private interment for the family will be at Elmhurst Cemetery, St. Paul. Memorials preferred to the Norbert A. and Eunice C. Streufert Church Worker Scholarship Endowment, Concordia University, Seward, NE.
