Patrick Mccarthy

Patrick Michael McCarthy, 29, of Stillwater, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Thursday morning at his home after enjoying a good day with his family. Pat endured the progressive loss of muscle function for many years with both dignity and grit. Pat recently had some remission that allowed him to better enjoy time with friends and family. He recently resumed driving and had purchased a classic car only days before he passed.

Pat never gave up, always made the best of his situation and had a ready smile. He was loving, giving and stood up for those who needed help. He is frequently described as "a good friend."

Pat was born in Arlington, Virginia in July 1986. Pat moved with his parents to Stillwater in 1987 where he continued to live his whole life. He attended Oak Park Elementary and Stillwater High School and took classes at nearby community colleges.

Pat worked for Jimmy Johns as a delivery driver and manager. He enjoyed building teams that worked together well and of building a base of satisfied, repeat customers at his locations. Pat moved to Dominos during their reorganization, but could not continue to manage as his illness progressed. He continued to work in whatever capacity he was able to contribute until the past two years.

Pat had a lifelong love of vehicles starting with his love of a rumbling diesel engine, learning his colors watching cars at stop signs, and later of classic cars and especially demolition derbies. At age 7 he wrote in school that when he grew up he wanted to be a demolition derby driver. As an adult, he was champion of Washington County's first annual demolition derby.

Pat is survived by his mother Suzanne M. McCarthy (Stillwater), his father Michael E. McCarthy (Stillwater), his brother Daniel E. McCarthy (White Bear Lake), and son Nickolas McCarthy (Rochester, MN), and his cat, Kiki. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Mary Jeanne McCarthy (Caledonia), and his uncle William C. McCarthy (Caledonia).

Celebration of Pat's life will be Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 and Co Rd 5), Stillwater with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M. until time of the service.

Pat and his family would be honored if donations were made to the Newgate School, 2900 E. Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN, to help young adults who are in need earn mechanic credentials. Donations will fund scholarships for essential starter tools for graduates. Please note "Pat McCarthy, Tool Scholarship Fund".
