Paula Downs

Paula Ann (Mitchell) Downs, 91, died peacefully in her sleep at Good Life Senior Living in Hugo, MN, on February 27, 2022.

A strong mother of five, she was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Edna Mitchell; brother, William Mitchell; and two former husbands, Roger Awsumb and John (Jack) Downs.

Born in Crosby, ND, she went on to be a kindergarten teacher, business partner, school board member, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She is survived by her children Nancy (Don) Nelson, Robert (Diane) Awsumb, Jacki Suckow, Jo Ann Monson and Thomas (Christina Sundin) Downs, along with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Services and burial to be held this summer at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor’s choice.

Paula was a lifelong Presbyterian and a loyal AA member for nearly 36 years. Let go and let God.
