Age 91, passed away on October 7, 2026 at his Baytown Township (Stillwater, MN) home built on an oak tree-topped hill where he worked and roamed as a young farm boy.
Peter was born on November 24,1934 in St. Paul, MN. He is survived by wife, Marilyn, daughters, Jean Miller (Bill Turpin), Jude Miller (Ronn Hart), Pat St. Claire (Greg St. Claire), Jacqueline Miller (Greg Knutson), and sister, Mary Ann Buege. He was a devoted grandfather to Steve, Brian and Scott St. Claire, Brendan, Shannon, and Ian Burke, and Sam and Maddie Baitz. Pete enjoyed his role as "Great-Grandpa Pete" to Logan, Connor, and Elise St. Claire, Grace, Miles, and Amelia St. Claire, Ivy Baitz, and Beau Burke.
He is preceded in death by son, Peter John Jr., parents Hattie and Peter T. Miller, brothers Tom, Joe and Bill Miller, and sisters Pat Beaudet, Carolyn Willett, and Marge Sonju.
In 1957, Pete sold his '57 Chevy and a boat, bought a truck and excavator, and began Miller Excavating, a "Big or Small, We Do Them All" family business. He mentored three generations with a 'common sense, work a little bit harder, and a handshake means something' philosophy that continues as his legacy today. Pete and Marilyn took great pride in their community relationships, philanthropy, and special support of local youth in their academic and sporting endeavors.
Although Pete thought work was 'fun', he found time to travel, coach youth sports, participate in golf, basketball, softball, and bowling across the country at ABC events. Later in life, Pete also created Miller Farms, raised Polled Herefords and crops, and gave his family a special glimpse into what farm life meant to him. Pete's eternal optimism, unique problem-solving skills, a love for each moment of his life, and a willingness to work hard will be remembered by family and friends. As he would often remind us, "You make hay when the sun shines."
