Philip Robert Kohls of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on May 21st, 2026 at the age of 65.
Born on May 25th, 1960 in Columbus Grove, Ohio, he was the oldest child of Robert and Mary Jean Kohls. Philip graduated from high school in Ohio and went on to earn degrees in pharmacy and law in Minnesota.
He worked as both a clinical pharmacist and patent agent for many years before retiring. Outside of work, Phil had a passion for history, physical fitness, and food. Phil and Patty traveled the world, taking several biking tours with friends across Europe. The last several years of his life he deeply enjoyed his time both learning and assisting in teaching Krav Maga. He loved being "grandad", bird hunting with beloved dog Mac, hiking in various national parks, boating on White Bear Lake, golfing, and sampling craft beers and whiskeys. He and his best buddies took several road trips to do the latter. A lifelong learner, he spent his free time learning multiple languages, voraciously reading books and had most recently taken up Italian cooking.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Kohls; his two daughters, Sarah Kohls Rubatt (Matt Rubatt) and Abby Kohls; his three grandchildren, Ava, Lucy, and Mia Rubatt; his siblings, Tim Kohls (Colleen Kohls and daughter Megan Kohls), Mike Kohls (Robyn Kohls and daughters Katie, Sami, and Rachel), Nancy Tibbets (Mike Tibbets); and three grandnieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Jean Kohls; and brothers, Nicholas and Martin Kohls.
A memorial will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, MN 55082 with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. All who knew Phil are welcome to attend.
