Phyllis Ione Elmquist

Elmquist, Phyllis (Myhre) age 103 of North Oaks, MN, formerly of West St. Paul, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13th, 2026.

Preceded in death by parents Martin and Stella (Qualey) Myhre, husband, Alton Elmquist, infant son Bruce, sisters Doreen Dahl, Lola Thorson and Audrey Olson, brothers-in-law Tenus Thorson, P. Kenneth Olson, Douglas Dahl, and nephew Keith Olson.

Survived by son, Blake (Mary Jo) Elmquist, daughter, Bonnie Elmquist; grandchildren Ryan (Jasmine) Elmquist, Jamie Elmquist, Marla (Eric) Ekman and Christina (Benjamin) Brady; great-grandchildren Ethan, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Hannah and Lily; and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

Phyllis was born on the family farm in Wilmington Township near Spring Grove, Minnesota where she graduated from high school in 1940. After completing a business education, she was employed in various business positions in Minneapolis, Los Angeles and South St. Paul. She met her husband, Alton, when they were golfing with friends at Madden's Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota. They were married in 1954 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in South Minneapolis, and continued to enjoy golfing and traveling until Alton passed away in 2002.

Phyllis was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and loved to share the Norwegian traditions with her family and friends. Her devotion to her Lutheran faith began with summer Bible School and Luther League and continued into adulthood as a Sunday School teacher. She loved to dance and golf. But her greatest loves were her family, friends, and faith. The family wishes to thank Croixdale Senior Living in Bayport, MN and Waverly Gardens in North Oaks, MN for their excellent care.

A memorial service will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, July 21 at ST. STEPHEN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1575 Charlton St, West St Paul, MN 55118 with a visitation beginning at 10AM. Private interment Fairview Cemetery, Stillwater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, (1575 Charlton St., West St. Paul, MN 55118); Bethlehem Lutheran Church (4100 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55409) or YMCA Camp du Nord (YMCA Alton Elmquist Memorial Fund).
