RADM Paul Vincent Quinn, MD

Paul V. Quinn, age 85, of Stillwater, passed away on February 17th, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Peg; children, Mary (Derek) McCallum, Ann (Robert) Vance, Katie (John) Mack, and Sean Quinn; grandchildren, Kyla, Quinn, Clara, Lucie, Charlie, Aidan, Maggie, Vivien, Josie, Mimi, Connor, and Casey. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Mae Quinn, and young son, Mark.

Paul grew up in Bound Brook, NJ, then graduated from his beloved  University of Notre Dame. Next, he added an MS in Pharmacology and an MD from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where he met Peg Root, and they embarked on a full life together. After participating in one of the first Family Practice residencies, he began active duty with the Navy at Pensacola, FL, then at Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC as a flight surgeon. Dr. Quinn and his family moved to Stillwater in 1972, where he practiced family medicine for 32 years. He began a concurrent career in the Navy Reserve, retiring in 2002 as a two-star admiral in charge of Naval Reserve Medicine.

A lifelong learner, Paul’s medical journals, newspapers, and biographies were never far from reach. Over the years he learned how to ski (both downhill and cross country), golf, sail, and even took piano lessons for a (thankfully) brief time. He was an avid runner, completing the Twin Cities, Duluth, and Marine Corps marathons. He was active with the Lions Club and volunteered with relief organizations. A devout Roman Catholic, Paul’s faith inspired him to live a life of service to his patients, his family, and his country. It was his motivation to help others that led him to allow his journey with Alzheimer’s to be documented for several years on  WCCO-TV, as the team there thoughtfully shared Paul’s and his family’s experience with the long goodbye of Alzheimer’s disease. Paul worked hard to make a nice life for his family, and the former Quinn home was the setting for an annual Fourth of July celebration and countless family gatherings that leave us all with wonderful memories and stories to tell.

Paul’s family is grateful to friends and caregivers for their kindness and support since his diagnosis, especially his buddy, Nicole Arndt.

A gathering to honor Paul’s long and full life will be held Saturday, March 9th, at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, with visitation at 10 AM,  memorial service at 11:30, and a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to our family fundraising team for the Alzheimer’s Association, The Admiral’s Club: http://act.alz.org/goto/AdmiralPaulQuinn
