Richard B. (Dick) Edge
Age 102, of Stillwater, formerly of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on All Saints Day, November 1, 2026.
Preceded in death by wife, Doris; parents, Ephriam and Mabel; brother, Raymond, and son-in-law, Dean Sonnee.
He will be sadly missed by daughters, Anne Sonnee (Darren Sedlezky) and Amy Sheehan (William); grandchildren, Katelyn LeClair (Jordan), Samantha Sonnee (David Best), Brendan Sheehan, and Kayla Sheehan; great-grandchildren, Greta and Ella LeClair; and many family and friends.
Dick was a lifelong St. Paul Eastsider and a graduate of Johnson High School class of 1943. He was a World War II veteran, joining the Army in July 1943. He fought on the European front including the Battle of the Bulge where he earned a purple heart for being wounded in combat. Dick was honorably discharged in January 1946.
Dick enrolled in the University of Minnesota intending to major in architecture, but had to quit college to support his parents. He went to work at Genuine Auto Parts. He stayed with the auto parts chain for 20 some years managing several different store locations. Dick made a career change in his 50s and took a role in the purchasing department at the Metropolitan Transit Commission (now Metro Transit).
Dick met his wife Doris at Renee's lounge in downtown St. Paul where she played organ and piano. They were married in 1956 at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church in St. Paul. They built a house on Barclay Street in St. Paul in 1962 and lived there for more than 60 years.
Dick was a talented handyman and enjoyed working on projects around the house. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, bowling and skiing in his younger days. After retirement, he enjoyed building radio-controlled model boats and was a member of the Edina Model Boat Club. In his later years, he spent time doing word search puzzles, watching TV and reading the newspaper.
Dick was a wonderful father to his two daughters, a kind and gentle man and a hard worker who never wanted to leave a project unfinished. His friendliness and waves to other residents at the nursing home where he spent his final days were appreciated by all.
Thanks to the staff at Croixdale in Bayport and Good Samaritan in Stillwater for their loving care over the last few years.
