Richard "Dick" Ames Proulx

June 25, 1933 — January 6, 2026

Stillwater, MN

Richard "Dick" Ames Proulx of Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at age 92 on January 6, 2026. Dick was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Adam Proulx. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Marlene Proulx; his children Ric (Laurie) Proulx, Scott (Lisa) Proulx, Sandy (Dave) Hill, Jody (Guy) Wojtowicz, and John Proulx; 8 grandchildren (Corey, Chris, Nick, Evan, Andrew, Zach, Jake and Tanner); 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother Tom Proulx.

Dick was born June 25, 1933 in St. Paul, MN, graduated from North H.S. in N. St. Paul, earned an accounting degree from the U of MN, and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Torgersen, on Aug. 29, 1953. They had 5 children in 8 years and numerous beloved dogs. Dick loved his family and enjoyed doing activities with them, like teaching them to water ski on Third Lake in Forest Lake, MN, where they raised their kids. He made experiences a priority by bringing the family on snow skiing trips out west, coaching their hockey and baseball teams, and playing golf with them. With Marlene as household CEO, Dick built his CPA career and became partner in several CPA firms, but he also found time to be a leader in the community. He was president of the Forest Lake H.S. School Board, Forest Hills and North Oaks Golf Clubs, helped Forest Lake get its first indoor ice rink built, and was honored for his mentoring of Vietnamese businesses. After retiring as KPMG partner, he was a board member of MOCON Corp. for several years.

As a social and athletic man, Dick was a Vikings football season ticket holder for many years, played handball at the Mpls. Athletic Club, golfed and rode his bike until age 90, and was a lifelong U of M Gopher hockey and football fan. He was fiercely competitive, especially when playing card games like gin for money. He could be frugal yet was very generous to his family with his time and money.

Dick and Marlene moved from Forest Lake to North Oaks and then to their Stillwater, MN condo. They enjoyed an active retirement, which included wintering at their homes in Stuart FL, Port St. Lucie FL, Oro Valley AZ, and finally Saddlebrook AZ, where they treasured get-togethers with good friends and especially enjoyed spoiling their beloved dogs Torgie and Kodie.

A man of deep faith, Dick was always active in his church and lived his life guided by strong values and integrity. His energy, discipline, and enthusiasm for life were evident to all who knew him. Dick will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be remembered for his devotion to family, faith, service, and an active life well lived.

His celebration of life will be Jan. 23, with visitation at 10 am, service at 11 am, followed by lunch, all held at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., StillwaterMN. Interment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Homes For Our Troops.
