Richard "Dick" Schultz
Age 89, of Stillwater, MN passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 23rd, 2026.
He was a beloved Guidance Counselor at Stillwater Senior High School during his long career (1967-1998). "Mr. Schultz" was fondly remembered by all his students for his kindness and counsel, as the teacher advisor to AFS, and for writing hall passes for students to sneak back into class. He always loved catching up with them long after they graduated.
Rich was a devout parishioner of St. Mary's Parish and was actively involved in the Catholic Order of Foresters (COF) as youth director and Chief Ranger of local court #821, Vice Chief Ranger and youth director at the state level, and Trustee of the High Court at the national level. He was named the COF Fraternalist of the Year in 2007.
Originally from Winona, Minnesota, Richard honorably served in the Navy for three years. He was active in the Bayport American Legion with fundraising events and selecting students for their Legionville and Boys State programs and scholarship programs. He was awarded Bayport's Legionnaire of the Year in 2015.Rich loved traveling, genealogy, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, LaVerne; children Joseph (Dawn) Schultz, Mary (James) Wellington, and Daniel (Stacie) Schultz; and grandchildren Emma, Theresa, and Eva.
A visitation will be held on April 7th at St. Mary's Church, 423 5th St S, in Stillwater, 10am followed by mass at 11am. Military burial ceremony will be held on April 9th at 10am at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made in Rich's name to a charity of your choice.
