He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Warren Stoner.

Dick was a graduate of Hibbing High School and attended Hibbing JC before earning a BA in Business and Botany in 1955 from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. After graduation, Dick joined the Navy and qualified for Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in March 1956.

From 1956 to 1958, Dick served his country on an ammunition ship with tours of duty in the Pacific. Dick moved on to build a career in sales for the CE&I Railroad, Honeywell and Rogness Equipment Company, retiring in 1997 after 25 years of employment.

An ever-enthusiastic historical train and streetcar fan, Dick was an avid collector-builder of model trains. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of the wildflowers he grew in the back woods when he lived in Mounds View, MN.
