Dick was born and raised in Fryeburg, ME. A graduate of Bates College, where he met his wife Susan, Dick touched many lives with his chosen professions.
Dick was an assistant dean and a teacher at Fryeburg Academy, a teacher and award-winning track coach in Orono, ME, where he developed the first indoor track league for girls in the state of Maine, and eventually became the principal of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine. Leaving education in the mid 8's, he became co-owner of the West Springfield Country Store in W. Springfield, N.H. with his wife, and ended his career in his beloved Northwoods of New Hampshire at Shaws in Gorham.
Dick had many fond memories of his life and accomplishments, the many people he met along the way, his family, his time fishing, walking in the woods and communing with wildlife, especially the black bears in his backyard in Milan, N.H. Dick moved to Roseville, Minn., after retirement to be closer to his grandchildren. He loved sports, watching his grandchildren grow into adults and spoiling his granddogs.
Dick was predeceased by his grandson Ben, his daughter Andrea and the love of his life, his wife, Susan. He will be sorely missed by his daughter Kate Hanson, son-in-law Brian and grandsons, Alex and Sam who are comforted that he is now at peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Ben's Buddies at bensbuddies.org, Appalachian Mountain Club at outdoors.org, or an educational institution meaningful to you. If you knew Dick, please consider leaving a memory on his web page.
