Robert Jon Hall

December 6, 1943 — May 26, 2026

Robert (Bob) Jon Hall, age 82 of Dellwood, Minnesota, was called to Heaven on May 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on December 6, 1943 to Leora (Saunders) and Elton Hall, and grew up in the Rice Street area of St. Paul. He graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and then attended Mankato State University where he earned degrees in sociology, social studies, and special education. More importantly, he met the love of his life, and wife of 58 years, Carole (Kohout). A lifelong learner, Bob earned several advanced degrees, as well, and was passionate about teaching. He was a dedicated special education teacher at Anoka Senior High School for 33 years. Bob also taught Sunday school and confirmation at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained" is a saying Bob's mom had, so he followed in her footsteps and dragged Carole along kicking and screaming as they bought and restored a one hundred year old house, started and ran businesses such as a nursing home and a successful property management company, and together built a house; all while teaching full time, and well after retirement. Always on the road, Bob racked up hundreds of thousands of miles. He never got tired, and he never complained.

Bob took every opportunity to share his extensive knowledge about history, religion, current events, birds, or psychology, usually beginning with, "You'll get a kick out of this," "I heard a piece on MPR," or "I saw a program." He loved Jesus ("He has risen ya know!"), a nice chit-chat, a long, funny story, bike rides on the Gateway Trail, coffee, beer, Public Broadcasting, C.S. Lewis, Winston Churchhill, and Warren Buffett. He enjoyed getting everyone together and cherished the relationships he had within the large and extended Hall and Kohout families. He created wonderful family memories with epic road trips, camping, skiing, and traveling internationally. But more than anything, Bob was so proud of his five grandchildren. He was a constant for them, attending all of their school and sports events, celebrating all of their achievements, taking them on annual trips to Florida and cabins up north, and always making sure they knew they were deeply and unconditionally loved.

Bob was a big guy with a big heart, and will be remembered for his perpetual optimism, willingness to do anything ("Talked me into it!"), his wisdom, kindness, love for conversation and his contagious laugh. As he ascends to Heaven, we can just hear him say, "Feet, don't fail me now!" And if we live to be a thousand, we'll never forget you, Bob.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and James (Ethel), and his sisters Patricia (Marvin) and Judith (Dwayne).

Bob is survived by his wife Carole, his daughter Anna (Ed Rejda), son Erich (Sara Murphy), grandchildren Ian and Elise Rejda, and Graham, Adele, and Barry Murphy-Hall, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
